He, being a lifelong outdoorsman and avid coffee guy (who, literally, has been drinking coffee around the world in true fashion of hot and black only) decided that he wanted a drink that would go in his coffee and taste like coffee or drank straight and taste like coffee.

He wanted something that at the end of a hard workday or at the back end of the fishing / hunting day could be enjoyed while relaxing.
